Volunteering at Jerusalem Mill Village

The Friends of Jerusalem Mill (FOJM), a 501(c)(3) organization, is a group of volunteers dedicated to restoring, preserving, and interpreting the 18th and 19th century Jerusalem Mill Village. FOJM always welcomes new members and volunteers.

The invaluable help that individuals, civic groups, Boy and Girl Scout Troops, and other community organizations give to Jerusalem Mill Village is greatly appreciated.

Village volunteers enjoy unique, memorable experiences, and can choose from among a variety of positions. Docents can interpret the methods of the milling industry and offer visitors tours of the Museum and Visitor Center. Living History Interpreters for 18th and 19th centuries demonstrate period-appropriate dress, crafts, trades, and domestic activities.Positions are also available in the general store. Museum Assistants help with the myriad of activities associated with archives, artifacts, and recordkeeping.

More contemporary positions include Administrative Assistant, Gift Shop Sales Associate, Restoration Specialist, and Groundskeeper and General Maintenance .

Docent


A docent is a person who leads guided tours, especially through a museum or art gallery.

Are you comfortable speaking with the public and answering their questions?

Jerusalem Mill Village is seeking people with good public relations skills to greet and guide our visitors. On the job training provided. Both costumed and non-costumed positions available.



Living History Interpreters


Jerusalem Mill Village is a great place to demonstrate your historic craft or skill, or join us and learn one.

Demonstrations of daily life during the 1770s are the mainstay of our historic programing here in Jerusalem Mill Village. Join us in preserving and interpreting our history.

Some interpretations you can do:
* blacksmith
* gunsmith
* woodworker
* gardener
* leathercraft
* tinsmith
* hornmaker
Some skills your can demonstrate:
* spinning
* hearth cooking
* etc.

We also welcome interpreters of the 1860s both in military and civilian dress.



Museum Assistants


Like to handle history?

We need a volunteer to help us record and store accessions, conserve artifacts,prepare exhibits and manage correspondence.



Administrative Assistant


Is office or administrative work more inline with your desires and skills?

Computer, secretarial, office administration are skills that are needed.



Gift Shop Sales Associate


Work in a tasteful gift shop in a historic setting. You will, as a Sale associate, assist customers and handle sales under the direction of the gift shop manager.



Restoration Specialist


Do you have education or experience in historic preservation or restoration?
You will work closely with the property committee on the preservation, restoration or re-creation of historic buildings. You will also advise and coordinate on the maintainance of modern facilities in a manner that complements the historic nature of the village.



General Maintenance/Groundskeeper


Maintenance

General maintenance skills desired.

We need a person or persons to help maintain and make minor repairs in the village. You will work under the supervision of the property committee.

Groundskeeper

Are your desires more suited to working outdoors?

We are looking for volunteers to assist with general landscape and/or gardening duties. Depending on your skills and desires you may assist with mowing, pruning, gardening, trail maintainance, invasive species removal and other activities neccessary to maintain the landscape in and around the village.




Civic groups

Jerusalem Mill Village recevies support from several local civic and business groups.

From spring cleanup and landscaping to larger projects, we appreciate the assistance these groups provide
.


Eagle Scout troops

The Friends of Jerusalem Mill have a proud history of working with young men to achieve Eagle Scout status.
