POSTPONED!

May 16 & 17, 2009

Join us for another great event in:

As anyone who has been to our site knows, a large part of the attraction of Jerusalem Mill Village is the almost pristine beauty of the hay fields, pastures and woods of the site. Because of the unusually wet weather, in order to ensure an enjoyable event for all involved and to preserve the site and the surrounding private fields we leased for this event, we have found it necessary to postpone the RedCoats are Coming event until later in the year (watch for dates coming in the very near future but as a heads up we are looking at a late summer/early fall weekend).

This postponement, though an extremely difficult decision that presents some problems in itself, does create a number of opportunities to make a later event even better than this one was planned to be (this one was slated to be great but look for the rescheduled event to be the one of the grandest ever).

We will be working hard to make this unfortunate turn of events become your opportunity to enjoy a future "event to be remembered".

Stay tuned here for announcements regarding the "RedCoats are Coming"

Sincerely,
Friends of Jerusalem Mill

Please visit our RedCoats Special Information page for more information about attending this special event.

The 2009 RedCoats are Coming encampment and battle enactment promises to be FoJM's grandest event ever. With an anticipated 1500 participants this national British Brigade and Continental Line supported event offers more excitement, more activities and more fun!

This event will be held in and around Historic Jerusalem Mill Village, located in the Gunpowder Falls State Park in Kingsville, Maryland. Jerusalem Mill Village is a rural area only minutes from I-95, along the banks of the scenic Little Gunpowder Falls.

The land was first patented in the late 1600s, and by 1740 held a dwelling, two tobacco barns, and an orchard. By the time of the Revolutionary War a large part of the village was in place, including the grist mill (one of the largest in Maryland), a sawmill, a blacksmith shop, the gunshop, and presumably one or more dwellings.

According to tradition, during the Revolutionary War the Maryland Committee of Safety contracted with David Lee, owner of the mill, to make muskets for the Maryland Militia. It is believed that the work occurred in the small two-story stone building behind the mill now known as the gunshop. It is also possible that David Lee supplied flour to Washington's army.

Though there were no actual battles fought here in the village, there were a number of British raids in the northern Chesapeake Bay area. Our demonstrations will feature scenarios that cover the question: what if a British raid had encountered American troops... here at Jerusalem Mill? Join us and find out!

Admission applies and the village or certain areas thereof may be closed for general use during these events. All admission fees directly support our programs, preservation and restoration efforts. Sorry no pets allowed during this event.

All proceeds benefit the Friends of Jerusalem Mill, an all volunteer, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. This event is made possible, in part, by grants from the Maryland State Arts Council and the Harford County Government through the Harford County Cultural Arts Board.

Funding is also provided in part, by a grant from the Society of Sons of the Revolution in the State of Maryland and corporate and private sponsors. Thank you for your generous support.
