Gilmor's Raid   Friday, June 22 - Sunday, June 23, 2013

Jerusalem Mill Village announces its 9th Annual Civil War Weekend Encampment; commemorating CSA Major Harry W. Gilmor's 1864 raid across Baltimore and Harford Counties and on the General Store (now popularly known as McCourtney's), located here in the village. The raid was part of an overall campaign conducted by Major Gilmor to disrupt Union transportation and communication.

The Confederate officer, Major Gilmor and 135 of his men, parts of the 1st and 2nd Maryland Cavalry, passed through Jerusalem Mill on their way to burn the railroad bridge at Magnolia Station, stopping long enough to "requisition" supplies and "liberate" horses from the store and the surrounding area.

The details of Gilmor's Raid can be foundon the the signs and displays at the general store. Information includes the shooting of Sgt. Fields by private citizen Ishmael Day at nearby Kingsville. Also on display are newspaper and other historicsl accounts of the raid. We also have a replicca of Gilmor's uniforn jacket on display.Come and learn of this Confederate incursion into Harford County. A full account is found the Daniel Tooney's Johnson- Gilmore Raid book available in the gift shop for only five dollars.
